With 40 minutes played the scoreline was 5-04 to 1-10. Cork came storming back through scores from Cleary, O'Mahony and McCarthy and with 8 minutes remaining substitute Clare Nevin levelled the game with a goal. It looked like it might go to a replay but Galway held their nerve. Hynes and Miskell put Galway two ahead. Cork's O'Mahony brought it back to but other missed late opportunities allowed Galway to keep their noses in front when it really mattered.
